The Wonderful World of Modding

While entering the world of modding, I had a bit of a rough start, but I think I’m getting the hang of it. I’ve only tried modding Skyrim so far which should be easy with nexus mod manager. But it kept on coming up with an error message, and instead of trying to fix it I tried my luck at dealing with manually installing the mods. This proved to be foolish and incredibly frustrating.

I would like to say I quickly gave up on this endeavor, but sadly I did not. I spent a great deal of time trying to figure it out, until I resorted to uninstalling and then re-installing Skyrim and Nexus mod manager. Luckily, that worked. But even now I don’t fully understand how to work Nexus mod manager, and I may completely switch to steam workshop. Which is easy to use, one button and done.

Yeah not very exciting pic, but what do you expect? I’m just talking about mods…

That is not to say I haven’t had success, I have gotten the majority of my mods to work. But I do feel as though I need to be careful with modding. People always talk about people who are sensitive to mods that are “lore breaking”, I don’t care so much about breaking lore, as I do breaking the game. What I mean by that is, I don’t want to mod in the most powerful spells and armor of all time. I enjoy playing games like this because I can see the progress I make, and see my hard work pay off by getting sweet armor. If I just modded in overpowered stuff the game would be ruined for me. So most of the mods I will be adding will be graphic, design, and extra quest mods.

John Carter is Everywhere!

IMDB.org

On Sunday I was at Ryan’s house, and somehow we ended up on the Sci-Fi Channel only to find that The Princess of Mars, a movie based on the novel of the same name by Edgar Rice Burroughs, was playing. If this name rings a bell its because this is the same author who invented the character John Carter and incorporated him in many of his works of fiction, including this one. Being the enthusiastic movie critics that both Ryan and myself are, we had a lot of fun watching this bazar specimen of a movie. Everything from the acting to the special effects were completely out of this world, and not in a good way. Although I don’t actually know much about the story of John Carter, from what I gathered he is a guy that somehow ended up on Mars only to find weird, Tusken Raider-like sand monster people that enjoy drinking sweat and eating caterpillar poop. If you were to see this movie with no prior knowledge of its history, you might assume that is was made some time in the 80’s, thus accounting for its lack in special effects and overall production quality. But low and behold it was released in 2009 as a direct-to-dvd release. I am sure that most of you have heard that a new release of the original John Carter story has been released through Disney.

So what do you guys think about Disney’s attempts to recreate a story as strange and bazar as John Carter? Are you going to see the movie? Have you already seen it? Let me know in a comment!

Sam and Ryan’s Magical Van’s Warped Tour Experience!

Ryan and I at Warped Tour 2011

Last year I attended Van’s Warped Tour with Ryan, and it was a lot of fun. I enjoyed the freedom and versatility of a festival type concert, and it was great being able to roam around listening to bands that I loved, and new bands I had never heard of before.

I think one of the major things Vans focused on when planning out Warped Tour 2011 was making sure they did not stick to one genre of music. Instead they had a huge assortment of different bands and artists performing for a wide range of different audiences.

One of my favorite stops was actually at the Earnie Ball stage. This stage featured local bands who were taking their shot at becoming rockstars. I heard a lot of incredible talent and was amazed at the young ages of some of the bands.

On the main stages I saw Asking Alexandria, Black Veil Brides, A Day to Remember, Simple Plan, 30h!3, and many other great bands. Although I did get to see some of my all time favorite bands last year, there still were a few bands I wished were there. Unfortunately neither Paramore or Falling in wReverse played at the Ventura, California Warped Tour stop even though they had other slots at different stops on the tour.

I am very excited for next year’s Warped Tour. There are a few headliners I am really looking forward to seeing such as Mayday Parade, Sleeping with Sirens, Senses Fail and many more. Although I am sure that the shows will be amazing, I still feel like a few key bands are missing such as All Time Low or Escape The Fate. I know that these bands are big enough to sell out their own shows, but it would be nice if Warped Tour attempted to incorporate more Bands in this year.’

Overall I think Warped Tour is a great way for fans to get to see a lot of their favorite bands at one concert and to also experience new and upcoming bands they may have never heard of.

So tell me about your Warped Tour experiences if you have ever been before? If not, let me know if you plan on going next year!

Apparently I Bought the Last Gamcube Controller in the Universe.

By universe I mean my local Gamestop.

So who in the right mind would by a gamecube controller you ask? Someone who is planning to replay one of their favorite classic games. That game would be Paper Mario. I have replayed this game once before, but its been a while and each time I play this game it entertains me the same as it did the first time I ever played it.

Unfortunately for me it has been so long since I’ve played a gamecube game that I’ve misplaced all of my controllers. So that’s why I was at gamestop asking for one. At first the guy behind the desk was so certain they didn’t have one he didn’t even check the computer. I told him to do so anyway just to make sure, and luckily they did have one! It was in some sketchy box in the corner and its missing its rubber analog covering, but who cares!

I will be able to play one of my favorite games of all time on it! and I bought the last gamecube controller that gamestop will ever sell, so I feel kind of special!

What do you think of more classic games vs more modern games? Let me know in a comment!

A Day to Remember – I’m Made of Wax Larry (Guitar Cover)!

So I told you guys that I would be embedding videos from my YouTube account, DistinctGuitar. Well I am still working out recording the Overlord theme song from Zelda, but I do have another previous YouTube video I would like to share with you.

This video is of me covering I’m Made of Wax Larry, What Are You Made Of? by A Day To Remember. Like my other video, I figured the majority of this song out by ear or by watching other covers on YouTube so I do not have tabs. I recorded using a Guitar Hero Mic on a Line 6 Spider IV amp. Hopefully you guys will enjoy this cover, and in the future I will put up more covers so look forward to that. But first, let me know what type of music you listen to. Do you like A Day to Remember or any other bands in that scene, or do you listen to stuff completely different? leave a comment!

And Goodbye (console) Fallout

I suppose this is much more of a hello, than a goodbye, for I sadly haven’t been playing fallout at all. So that will make this transition easier and harder. Since I haven’t been playing Fallout at all it will be refreshing to play it again, but on the other hand I have put much more time and effort into my Fallout avatars than my Skyrim avatars.

My first Avatar, Vittor:

He is completely righteous and primarily uses guns, and unarmed.

My other avatar, Scarlet:

She only does things if it benefits her, she uses energy weapons, explosives, and unarmed.

So yeah it will be hard to part with these two wasteland Juggernauts, but I’m sure I will make equally badass and awesome avatars on my PC.

The New iPad is so Revolutionary Apple Forgot to Name it!

Apple.com

The new Apple iPad is here… so what does this mean?

Well lets start off with talking about the new features that this iPad will be featuring. First off, the new display is over 3.1 million pixels (4 times more than in the iPad 2). This means clearer text, pictuers, videos, apps and anything else you care to load on your iPad. It also has an A5X quad-core processor, which means better, faster and more powerful. Infact the new iPad will have mroe proccessing power than the leading gaming consoles on the market (Xbox 360/PlayStation 3).

The camera is now 5 mega pixels, with improved video recording quality (1080p HD) and the camera has many features of a real digital camera such as white balance and face detection. It also comes in a 4G LTE version which will allow for fast internet connection anywhere there is service.

The Wifi only versions start at $499 for 16 gb, $599 for 32 gb and $699 for 64 gb. The 4G LTE versions start at $629 for 16 GB, $729 for 32 GB and $829 for 64 GB.

My personal opinion on the iPad is that it is very a fun product, but it is not a useful or productive product. I don’t like how it still does not support flash, and the IOS operating system lacks a lot of functionality that the normal OS (Mac Computer) has. Overall I know I will definitely not be buying this product, but thats just me.

What do you guys think about this new release in the iPad family? Will you buy it or not? Tell me why in a comment!

Goodbye (console) Skyrim!

So naturally, with the arrival of my new gaming laptop, I am switching to PC for all of my RPGs. Mostly because of the awesome mods you can get on PC. I have already installed some simple mods just to make sure I could get it to work, and I must say I’m very excited. Mods will give me endless things to do, because on my console accounts I found that I was pretty bored after I beat the main story line.

It does kind of suck that I must start from scratch, but I’m being optimistic about it, I think it will give the game completely new life for me. And besides I didn’t spend too much time on my skyrim avatars. I only have two high level ones, and one of them I used the book shelf glitch with so that account is kinda ruined. But yeah here is my main account on my Xbox, Retille.

As I said, I believe PC will give skyrim new life for me. Because I really haven’t been playing it all that much lately, so hopefully that will change.

The Debute of the Assassin’s Creed 3 Trailer!

So last week the cover art for Assassin’s Creed 3 was accidentally leaked on the internet, well now the first official trailer is actually up! Here it is!

If you know anything about the Assassin’s Creed series than I am sure that this trailer gave you chills! So many questions and so long to wait till we get the answers.

The first thing I noticed was how different that map layout seems. Instead of buildings scattered everywhere, this map seems to have trees that you can use to free-run. And then there is this new mysterious assassin! Who is he? What is his role in the assassin legacy. Finally the trailer ends with a quick shot of the American Revolution. Although this trailer reveals little about the actual game, it is still incredibly exciting to know that the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed series is on the way.

So what do you guys think about this new setting for Assassin’s Creed and the new assassin that seems to be replacing Ezio? Let me know in a comment!

Watch Out PC Gamers!

Because here comes Ryan! With the arrival of my new Alienware laptop I have officially moved into all mediums of gaming.

It has taken me a little while to adjust to a PC from a mac, but I think I’m learning quickly. The main games I’m looking forward to playing are RPGs and Battlefield games.

I also got an awesome mouse for my laptop. All in all I am extremely excited in the places I will go with PC gaming. It seems extremely fun.
