A Day to Remember – I’m Made of Wax Larry (Guitar Cover)!

So I told you guys that I would be embedding videos from my YouTube account, DistinctGuitar. Well I am still working out recording the Overlord theme song from Zelda, but I do have another previous YouTube video I would like to share with you.

This video is of me covering I’m Made of Wax Larry, What Are You Made Of? by A Day To Remember. Like my other video, I figured the majority of this song out by ear or by watching other covers on YouTube so I do not have tabs. I recorded using a Guitar Hero Mic on a Line 6 Spider IV amp. Hopefully you guys will enjoy this cover, and in the future I will put up more covers so look forward to that. But first, let me know what type of music you listen to. Do you like A Day to Remember or any other bands in that scene, or do you listen to stuff completely different? leave a comment!

The New iPad is so Revolutionary Apple Forgot to Name it!

Apple.com

The new Apple iPad is here… so what does this mean?

Well lets start off with talking about the new features that this iPad will be featuring. First off, the new display is over 3.1 million pixels (4 times more than in the iPad 2). This means clearer text, pictuers, videos, apps and anything else you care to load on your iPad. It also has an A5X quad-core processor, which means better, faster and more powerful. Infact the new iPad will have mroe proccessing power than the leading gaming consoles on the market (Xbox 360/PlayStation 3).

The camera is now 5 mega pixels, with improved video recording quality (1080p HD) and the camera has many features of a real digital camera such as white balance and face detection. It also comes in a 4G LTE version which will allow for fast internet connection anywhere there is service.

The Wifi only versions start at $499 for 16 gb, $599 for 32 gb and $699 for 64 gb. The 4G LTE versions start at $629 for 16 GB, $729 for 32 GB and $829 for 64 GB.

My personal opinion on the iPad is that it is very a fun product, but it is not a useful or productive product. I don’t like how it still does not support flash, and the IOS operating system lacks a lot of functionality that the normal OS (Mac Computer) has. Overall I know I will definitely not be buying this product, but thats just me.

What do you guys think about this new release in the iPad family? Will you buy it or not? Tell me why in a comment!

The Debute of the Assassin’s Creed 3 Trailer!

So last week the cover art for Assassin’s Creed 3 was accidentally leaked on the internet, well now the first official trailer is actually up! Here it is!

If you know anything about the Assassin’s Creed series than I am sure that this trailer gave you chills! So many questions and so long to wait till we get the answers.

The first thing I noticed was how different that map layout seems. Instead of buildings scattered everywhere, this map seems to have trees that you can use to free-run. And then there is this new mysterious assassin! Who is he? What is his role in the assassin legacy. Finally the trailer ends with a quick shot of the American Revolution. Although this trailer reveals little about the actual game, it is still incredibly exciting to know that the next installment in the Assassin’s Creed series is on the way.

So what do you guys think about this new setting for Assassin’s Creed and the new assassin that seems to be replacing Ezio? Let me know in a comment!

The Long Awaited Halo 4 is Finally Here!!

dasdhfjbaskdfbasdkf!!!!! The First Look at Halo 4 Video has been released and Ohh my Gawddd!!!

Ok before a dive into this post I’ll just throw in a little bit of back story for anyone who does not know about Halo’s history. The first three Halo games, Halo 1, 2 and 3 were all created and developed by the company Bungie. These first three games completely revolutionized first person shooters and all video games in general, with the first release being all the way back in the year 2000. After Halo 3’s release in 2005, a new company, Ensemble Studios, contributed to the Halo legacy and released a real-time strategy game based off of the Halo series in early 2009. Later that year Bungie continued its evolution of the Halo story with the release of Halo 3: ODST. I made a blog post with my opinions on this game which you can check out here is you are interested. After this, Bungie announced with was going to release its final installment into the Halo series, Halo Reach, and that after this the rights to the game would be sold to 343 Industries.

As of Saturday, 343 Industries has uploaded a video showing what they have been working on for Halo 4 which is set to be released this holiday season. This new Halo is supposed to really focus on the backstory of the infamous Master Chief, and to bring light to certain elements of the story that you can only find in third party content outside of the actual game. They have also updated the graphics so they are up to par with 2012 gaming standards and they have made many weapon changed, including bringing back the battle rifle.

There is no real way to tell if this will be a quality game or not, as it will be 343 Industries first release of a full game all on their own. I don’t know exactly what to expect, but being a huge Halo fun I am sure I will be buying this game as soon as it comes out.

What are your guys’ thoughts on the this new Halo game and the Halo series in general? Do you think it will live up to the previous Halo games even though it won’t be released by Bungie? Let me know in a comment!

A Quick Review of the PSVita!

multiplayerblog.mtv.com

I know that the PSVita has been out for a while now, but I just recently got a chance to play it for the first time. I was at the mall when I decided to make a Game Stop trip, and the first thing I saw was when I walked through the doors was the PSVita. In fact, that is all I saw. Sony went all out on their advertising, and made it pretty much impossible to go into any gaming retail store and ignore their product.

The first thing I noticed was just how big the console is. It is not necessarily bulky, just big. I don’t think this is really a downside because it allows the device’s display to be much larger than the older handheld Playstation consoles. The next thing I saw was the second analog stick they added. I think that this is one of the biggest improvements because it allows the handheld device to be more like a real gaming controller.

The graphics were improved as well. I only played one game, Gravity Rush, but I thought that the game did a good job of showing the full potential of the PSVita. I don’t think I will actually be buying this console as I am content with holding on to my original PSP, but who knows, I might change my mind later on.

What are your opinions on the PSVita? Do you like it? Do you hate it? Let me know in a comment!

Assassin’s Creed meets the American Revolution??!?

Ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Assassin’s Creed 3 is finally confirmed!!!! Ubisoft is making their 3rd installment to the incredibly successful series Assassin’s Creed, and as of today the cover art has finally been released. Here it is!

411mania.com

This image was originally accidentally uploaded by the website GameInformer, but it was uploaded before it was supposed to and was quickly taken down again. But as we all know, when something ends up on the internet it never goes away. Fans of the game quickly grabbed the image and saved it. Ubisoft later released the official image again.

As of right now nothing about the game other than the cover art has been officially released by Ubisoft, but this tells a ton in itself. First off, as we can see the game takes place during the American Revolution!! Say what???? The British are coming… and apparently Assassins as coming too!! No one knows who this new Assassin is, or what roll he will play in the story, but I know I am excited to find out!!

What are your guys thoughts on the Assassin’s Creed series? Are you excited for this release??

YouTube Channels, Guitar Covers and other stuff!

I have decided that because this blog is not solely dedicated to video games, I would incorporate my personal YouTube channel, which I use for uploading guitar covers. I would like to start embedding videos of guitar covers on this blog, specifically video game soundtracks, and I am considering making it a regular segment on our blog. Although I will be uploading video game soundtracks in the near future, for now I thought I would give you a look into my taste in music through a guitar cover I already have uploaded. This video is me covering Escape The Fate’s song “We Won’t Back Down”.

I figured everything out by ear so I don’t have tabs, but I do plan on tabbing out guitar covers of popular video themes so that you can learn how to play them yourself

So my question for you is what kind of music do you listen to? Do you also play an instrument?

Review of Harold and Kumar’s Christmas Special!

nerdreactor.com

Today I decided that I would do another movie review. I recently watched A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas, and, being a huge fan of the series, I thought it deserved my attention. So if you would take a moment and hearken back to the original, Harold and Kumar go to White Castle,  you will remember a movie filled with laughs, marijuana, and miniature burger cravings. It was a straight to the point, genius comedy that left its audience dying with laughter. As I am sure many of you will agree, Neil Patrick Harris (NPH) was one of the most memorable characters from that film.

Four years later this was followed up with a very mediocre sequel titled Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay. This film did not compare to the first one, but it still had its moments of hilariousness, and as usual, NPH made everything twice as funny.

Now with the release of the Christmas special, I am very torn. I can’t say that it is a bad film because I still laughed throughout the whole movie, but I feel like they did not put as much effort in as they did with the previous films. In this movie Harold has given up marijuana, he is a wealthy stockbroker and he finally has the girl of his dreams. He has not seen Kumar for years, but unfortunately for him, things soon change. Kumar jumps back into Harold’s life and accidentally sets fire to his father-in-law’s prize Christmas tree. They end up reunited on a quest to find a replacement tree, and in doing so, realize the problems they both have with their current lives.

Like all of the other films, this film is not short on the witty humor, but often it feels out of place and a bit lousy. They seem to find the fact that the film is in 3D to be a big enough joke on its own, and make remarks referring to it constantly throughout the film. Personally, I find 3D to be obnoxious and pointless for most films, especially a comedy like this, and I know they only did it to give people an excuse to see the film. This abuse of 3D only makes me less approving of the film, but I realize that it was important to make it a successful holiday release.

The story starts out good, but soon crashes and follows no particularly interesting sequence of events. NPH does make his return, and as usual, he is absolutely hilarious. But this is short lived, and the amount of funny quickly drops back down again. The movie ends with another useless life lesson that does not really instill any sense of realization, but instead leaves the audience waiting for the credits to roll so they can be done with the whole thing..

Although this film was definitely not the best in the series, it was still entertaining. I enjoyed it more than most holiday releases. What are your thoughts on the movie? Did you like it? Did you hate it? Let me know in a comment!

The Decline of the Modern Warfare Series!

gamelitist.com

Call of Duty is one of those games that almost anyone with an Xbox or Playstation has. I got into Call of Duty when I went down to Game Stop and purchased a copy of Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare 1 nearly four years ago. This sparked a monster and I just could not put the game down. I went straight from Modern Warfare 1 to Modern Warfare 2. This game exploded on the market in 2010 and has completely changed the competitive and professional gaming community. Although this game was extremely fun and entertaining for a short while, it quickly got repetitive and boring. It was almost as if you felt like you had to play to keep up with the rest of the gaming world, but it just wasn’t fun anymore. Now with the release of Modern Warfare 3, everything has crashed and burned. The game is literally just a map pack for Modern Warfare 2. The graphics are identical, many of the weapons are the same and the game feels no different than its predecessor.

As I am sure many of you know, Infinity Ward is responsible for producing Modern Warfare games in the Call of Duty Series, while Treyarch is responsible for making all of the other games. Both of these are game developers that work for the publishing company Activision. Although both developers have positive and negative sides to their games, Infinity Ward has arguably the most popular games. Despite the popularity of their games, the production and maintenance quality of Infinity Ward’s products are very low. Although Modern Warfare 1 was backed up with good map packs and game support, they slacked off on Modern Warfare 2. I mean like they literally produced the game and than left it in the dust to fend for itself.

The game collapsed and turned into a hacker friendly, booster infested modded lobby disaster. Infinity ward abandoned the game and immediately starting working on their next release. Why did they do this? To make more money!

It is way more beneficial for them to release a new game and sell another couple million copies than it is to keep up maintenance on the online servers of an older game. For this reason, I believe that the quality of Modern Warfare 3 will quickly decline as Infinity Ward scrambles to make more money on their next release.

I personally prefer Modern Warfare games to other games in the Call of Duty series, but I still am well aware of the flaws in the games. I think that the reason I am more attracted to these games is because Modern Warfare 1 was the first Call of Duty I played and Modern Warfare 2 was the first “first person shooter” I became obsessed with. I did enjoy Black Ops, but it did not entertain me for long and soon found myself playing the game less and less.

When Modern Warfare 3 was released I held off from buying it because I was skeptical of the quality of the game and I did not want to waste my money. In the end I surrendered and bought a copy of the game. I enjoyed it a lot at first, but I got tired of it very quickly. I think I can credit this to my long gaming history on Modern Warfare 2, and because these games are so similar it almost feels as if I am playing the same game.

For me the game is still fun, and as of right now the servers are running smoothly and the lobbies are hack free and booster free thanks to the removal of the game-ending tactical nuke. Although I enjoy it, I don’t play it very often and when I do it is not for very long periods of time. It is hard to say what I will do when the next Call of Duty is released, but I doubt I will buy it right away.

This is just my opinion though. What do you think about the Modern Warfare series and Modern Warfare 3 in particular? Will you buy the next game when it comes out?

Lookout for More Explosions, Bank Heists and Totaled Cars with the Release of Grand Theft Auto 5

GTANet.com

Grand theft auto is one of those series that just never gets old. GTA games always brings new and creative ways to kill people and blow things up and provide countless hours of entertainment for gamers such as myself. For this reason, when Rockstar announced the release of GTA 5 I was extremely excited. I am hoping that this release will bring back much of the functionality that GTA 4 lacked, such as the ability to fly planes and drive tanks. It seems like the plane feature was removed with the release of GTA 4 because Rockstar feared gamers might simulate the events that occurred during 9/11 due to the fact that the map is a mock up version of New York City. You can still fly a helicopter, but it just isn’t the same.

This next release takes place in Vinewood, Los Puerta which is modeled after Hollywood, Los Angeles. GTA is known for its lengthy storyline and its free-roam map, so I am expecting a lot from the graphics and map layout. Vehicles, weapons and characters are all different, but the overall feel of the game seems very similar to GTA 4. I am hoping that this release will live up to its predecessor and will not just feel like an add on to GTA 4. The game’s release date is not yet given, but it should be out by summer.

I know I am always excited for more opportunities to blow up police cars and terrorize civilians, so for me this is definitely a game I will buy, but what are your opinions on this game? Do you think it will live up to the success of GTA 4, or will it be just another game in the GTA series? Let me know in a comment!
